The Privatization of Indiana's Family and Social Services Agency

Mission:

To ensure that no Hoosier loses their medical care, TANF benefits or nutrition service because of FSSA's privatization.

Purpose:

This project is dedicated to Concerned Hoosiers who fear that many of our vulnerable fellow citizens may be harmed or forgotten in the midst of this significant outsourcing.

The project is designed to:

  • To provide a forum for concerned Hoosiers to share information on the impact (both positive and negative) of the changes.
  • To monitor the impact of changes on low-income, vulnerable populations in Indiana.
  • To work together to make sure that changes result in positive change for everyone.

Until October 22, 2007, there were only a limited amount of changes made. After that, the next phase of privatization was implemented in Region 1 which includes: Wabash, Miami, Cass, White, Carrol, Howard, Tipton, Grant, Blackford, Madison, Delaware and Randolph Counties. This next phase included the use of Call Centers to assist in processing applications for services and will rely heavily on technology. It is unclear if these changes are making things better for vulnerable populations or make it more difficult for them to receive services.

If you or someone you know receives Medicaid, Food Stamps or TANF or has recently tried to apply for these benefits we want to know about their experience!

To find out what is really happening we need your help. The more we know about what is happening in local communities the better. You can share information on your experience with this new and changing system by submitting information:
