Activating Citizen Involvement

Established in 1976, our mission is to improve the quality of life of all inhabitants of the State of Indiana, achieved through conducting research, public education and development efforts to conserve natural resources, protect the environment and provide affordable access to essential human services.

The sister organization of CACEF is the Citizens Action Coalition, which works on many of the same initiatives through a focus on initiating, facilitating and coordinating citizen action and advocacy.

Current Happenings:

Living Lean & Green Workshops

Our Living Lean & Green workshop introduces individuals and households to the impact of global warming on our community, and to a set of simple tools to reduce our energy consumption and save money. Participants explore and implement numerous home energy-saving strategies that will save them money. The five-session workshop is designed to help participants reduce their household carbon dioxide “footprint” by at least 5,000 pounds by going on a “low carbon” diet.

The Downstream Project

Working to protect our food, water, public health and rural areas from the threat of factory farms.

Hospital Accountability Project (HAP)

Citizens Action Coalition Education Fund (CACEF) and Indiana Legal Services, (ILS) are working on a Hospital Accountability Project (HAP) in Marion County. The project’s goal is to ensure that non-profit hospitals in Indiana earn the tax breaks they receive by providing an adequate amount of charity care to underinsured and uninsured citizens.
